Top 5 Cell Phones to Insure

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrint

We've always talked about insuring only expensive cell phones; inexpensive cell phones are better off replaced, not insured. So here are five of the most expensive cell phones in the world, the kind that literally shout “Insure me! Insure me!”

5. Motorola v220 Special Edition

The Motorola v220 Special Edition is one very expensive cell phone. Austrian designer Peter Aloisson designed the handset. He took a standard Motorola model, studded it with some 1,200 diamonds and a keyboard worth 18 carat in gold. The result is a cell phone that needs to be insured, or else you'll be spending $51,800 to replace it.

4. Vertu Diamond

The Diamond is Vertu's pride. It is the culmination of the company's range of high-end cell phones. And don't take it's name for granted: clusters of diamonds are embedded along the sides of the phone from top to bottom. Vertu is making only 200 Diamond handsets. At $47,567, it's worth the insurance.

3. Sony Ericsson Black Diamond

The Sony Ericsson Black Diamond is where style drowns out functionality. This handset doesn't have much to offer with its standard features: 128MB internal memory, Quad-band with WiFi, 4 Megapixal cam, etc. But apparently its polycarbonate titane finish and diamonds is worth its $300,000 price tag. You need to insure this cell phone or else keep it bolted and safe inside your house.

2. Vertu Signature Cobra

Another Vertu creation. Designed by French jewel designer Boucheron, Vertu is making only 8 handsets. The price is at $310,000, well over the threshold to deserve cell phone insurance.

1. Goldvish “Le million”

The Goldvish “Le million” may be a PR stunt, okay, but it is still the most expensive cell phone in the world. We do hope the Russian businessman who bought his wife this handset had the cell phone insured. The “Le million” is currently priced at $1,000,000. That's three Vertu Signature Cobras and one Motorola v220! Even the Royal Family ought to insure this handset, just in case.
